Semprus offers a simple and versatile solution to directly reduce healthcare costs and save lives by preventing medical device infections.  We are focused on developing the first fully implantable, non-leaching, bactericidal surface for long-term protection of medical device colonization and infection.  Our core technology focuses on the chemical attachment of antimicrobial agents to various materials and surfaces in such a way that they retain their activity without being leached from the device surface.  In comparison to first-generation coatings, which rely on the slow release of traditional antibiotics or antiseptics, Semprus' technology represents a fundamental paradigm shift in preventing device infections.

Due to the unique properties of our antimicrobial agents and the chemistries used to attach them to surfaces, Semprus offers several unique advantages that will establish us as the technology of choice for preventing infections across the spectrum of different medical devices:

  • Increased broad-spectrum activity because our active agents work against all relevant clinical pathogens and are uniformly presented at very high surface concentrations.
  • Extended activity duration because our active agent does not leach from the device into the body and is therefore not depleted as time passes.
  • Reduced systemic toxicity because the antimicrobial agent is not released and is fully biocompatible.
  • Little chance of resistance because our active agents are orders of magnitude less likely to develop resistance and are only presented at high local concentrations.
